There are approximately 3.5 million HNWIs living in APAC, with combined wealth holdings of US$17.7 trillion with Malaysia being one of the fastest growing markets in terms of HNWI growth. Currently estimates are that there are 65,000 HNWI in country with US$422 billion in wealth at present. The Malaysian HNWI Population however is not static and is forecast to grow by 14.8% by 2020
Further evidence of the robust nature of the market is the presence of 572 UHNWIs in Malaysia, with an average per capita wealth of US$176.6 million. Of this total, there were 14 billionaires, 211 centimillionaires and 347 affluent millionaires. WealthInsight expects the number of UHNWIs to increase by 16%, to reach 709 in 2019. This will include 18 billionaires, 256 centimillionaires and 435 affluent millionaires.
The introduction of Jewellery Asia is extremely timely concerning the fact that the market for fine jewellery is growing fast, with Malaysia ranked second in the world in terms of market growth. Through Jewellery Asia, Malaysia can be positioned as a thriving trading hub to reach out to HNWIs in Asia Pacific.
